Sweet Provocateur honours the science, art, and craft of baking and pastry by re-visiting the traditions and classics of the past.
Our creations range from simple and familiar to elaborate and extraordinary. Our flavours are sophisticated while never being concealed by sugar, as the dimension of flavour is always at the forefront at Sweet Provocateur.

The Chefs
Chef Kira Desmond is the Executive Pastry Chef of Sweet Provocateur, Catering and Specialty Pastries. Her passion and inherent talent for baking is what inspired her to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a pastry chef. The culture of food was a predominant aspect of Chef Kira’s upbringing, along with global travels, and a desire to explore and create.
Chef Kira graduated from the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in the Napa Valley. She continues to make trips back and consults regularly with her former Chef-Instructors. Chef Kira completed a stagiaire position at Thomas Hass Fine Chocolates and Patisserie in Vancouver after graduation.
Upon returning to Calgary, Chef Kira acquired the position of Executive Pastry Chef at Mango Shiva Indian Bistro. This experience allowed her to experiment with exotic flavours and creative techniques of pastry making.
In 2010, Chef Kira opened Sweet Provocateur with her brother, Matthew Desmond whom she worked with at Mango Shiva. Her greatest inspiration and influence comes from using fresh, whole ingredients, her customers, traveling, and global visionary pastry chefs such as Pierre Hermé and Paco Torreblanca.

Matthew Desmond has worked as a valued cook in many restaurants within the Calgary restaurant scene, including Broken Plate, Moxies, and Mango Shiva. Matthew is the director of the savoury menu at Sweet Provocateur.
